Beschreibung

The Master’s degree programme in Mathematics teaches students advanced and in-depth knowledge and skills in the field of (Applied) Mathematics and Statistics. Specialisations are
possible in the following focus areas:

  • Applied Analysis
  • Applied Statistics
  • Discrete Mathematics

The in-depth specialisation is based on a prior common mathematical foundation across all three areas.

Students can acquire an additional application-oriented qualification by taking the extension subjects Informatics and Information and Communications Engineering. This gives them an introduction to the interdisciplinary cooperation in the field of technical subjects offered at the University of Klagenfurt. The actual range of interdisciplinary opportunities for cooperation upon completion of the Master’s degree in Mathematics is substantially wider, ranging from engineering and natural and life sciences to business and finance.

This education provides students with the in-depth qualifications necessary to be deployed in the finance and insurance sector, in high-tech companies, in the consultancy branch, in the medical and pharmaceutical field, and also in research and post-secondary education. The pronounced practical relevance of the Master’s degree, based on a broad and deep scientific foundation, further enhances our graduates’ career opportunities. The Master‘s degree in Mathematics also prepares students for a doctoral degree in Mathematics or Statistics or, more generally, in technical and natural science subjects.

Qualifikationsprofil

Your skills are our mission. This is what we can teach you.

After completing their studies, graduates of the Master’s degree will be able to abstract problems that arise in practice, to subsequently formulate mathematical models, to address this using the techniques they have learned and to discuss the resulting solutions in an interdisciplinary context.

They can analyse, simulate, evaluate, and implement accordingly, using modern symbolic as well as numerical tools. In the academic field, the degree programme conveys a sufficient degree of familiarity with modern mathematical methods, so that current research questions can be appropriately addressed.

Berufsfelder

Best prospects. Your professional opportunities.

The expertise acquired during the course of the degree programme enables graduates to work autonomously in a broad professional field. They are qualified for work in the following areas:

  • development in technical companies
  • software development
  • IT
  • business mathematics and risk management in the banking and insurance sector
  • data security
  • professional activities in educational institutions
  • environmental technology
  • biomathematics in the clinical and pharmaceutical sphere
  • civil engineering
